Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari held a meeting with visiting Commandant of Oman's National Defense College Major General Salim bin Musallam Qatan on Tuesday, Fars news agency reported.

Sayyari said the naval forces of the Islamic Republic have "constant presence" in the northern Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden to protect the security of shipping lanes.

The navy frequently dispatches fleets on missions in the northern Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden to provide security for both Iranian and foreign vessels in the shipping lines in international waters.

The navy commander also said the Omani navy has always had close cooperation with the Iranian navy to maintain regional security.

The Omani general, for his part, expressed hope that the growing trend of relations between Tehran and Muscat would continue and said the two countries' navies have effective cooperation in the campaigns against terrorism and illicit drug trafficking.
