US President Donald Trump has once again asserted that Iran’s behavior has changed after he decided to scrap the 2015 nuclear deal.
Trump, a vocal critic of the accord, pulled the US out of the deal in May and ordered the reimposition of sanctions on Tehran to pressure Iran to enter into negotiations on a new agreement that would include its missile program and regional activities.
In an address to his supporters at an election rally in the US state of Ohio on Friday, Trump referred to his policy on the nuclear deal and said the pact was “one-sided”, the Economic Times reported.
“I withdrew the United States from the horrible one-sided Iran nuclear deal and look what happened to Iran. When I took office, Iran was all over the place. They were taking over Syria. They were taking over Yemen … I actually said, this is going to be a problem and we’ve got to do something.
“And about four months ago, we withdrew from that horrible, ridiculous deal. And you take a look what's happening to Iran. There’s riots all over the streets, all over the cities [referring to sporadic protests over economic hardship]. It's a whole different ballgame. It’s a whole different country. And it's looking real good.”
