Mexico Independence Day Felicitated

President Hassan Rouhani in a message Sunday congratulated his Mexican counterpart Enrique Pena Nieto on the Independence Day of his country. The president also felicitated the Mexican people and government on the occasion. Rouhani hoped the two countries would witness growing relations in areas of mutual interest, Mehr News Agency reported. Independence Day in the Central American nation is a public holiday to celebrate the “cry of independence” on September 16, 1810, which started a revolt against the Spanish occupation. Iran and Mexico have enjoyed close political and economic relations over the years, growing with the volume of bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Two-way trade between Iran and Mexico amounted to $133 million in 2011, however, that figure dropped to $3 million in 2014. In 2017, total trade between both nations amounted to $90.6 million.
