Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif posted a message on his Twitter account censuring the Trump administration’s unprecedented hostile stance against the International Criminal Court. “The US threatens to impose sanctions on the ICC & even prosecute its judges in American courts. Where is the outrage? The boorishness of this rogue US regime seems to know no bounds. When will the international community say enough is enough & force the US to act like a normal state?” Zarif’s tweet came after the United States launched a blistering verbal attack on the ICC and threatened sanctions against its judges if they proceed with a probe into war crimes by American troops in Afghanistan. John Bolton, US President Donald Trump's national security adviser, made the announcement in a speech to the Federalist Society, a conservative group, in Washington, DC, on Monday. "We will not cooperate with the ICC. We will provide no assistance to the ICC ... We will let the ICC die on its own. After all, for all intents and purposes, the ICC is already dead to us," Bolton said.
