US Envoys in Middle East to Discuss Syria, Iran

A US delegation is visiting Jordan, Turkey and Israel to discuss the situation in Syria and Iran's role in the region.

The US State Department announced on Friday that newly appointed special representative for Syria engagement James Jeffrey, accompanied by Near Eastern Affairs deputy assistant secretary and special envoy for Syria, Joel Rayburn, will visit Israel, Jordan, and Turkey between September 1 and 4, the National reported.

The statement said the US officials will hold negotiations on shared interests in regard to Syria and explore ways to counter what it claimed is "Iran's destabilizing activity throughout the region".

Iran has said that its regional policies contribute to the promotion of peace and stability and that its military advisors are in Syria at the request of the Damascus government.
