Leader Pardons, Commutes Sentences of 615 Inmates

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has pardoned or reduced the sentences of 615 inmates, his official website reported on Wednesday.

The move was made to mark Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Ghadir, two religious festivals commemorated over the week, and at the request of judiciary head Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani. The 615 prisoners were found guilty in public or Islamic Revolution courts and the Judicial Organization of the Armed Forces. Article 110 of the Constitution grants the Leader the right to pardon or commute the sentences of convicts on the recommendation of the head of the judiciary.
