Lawmakers in a statement Monday underlined their strong support for progress in different defense fields, hailing the Defense Ministry for its progress despite sanctions.

"Undoubtedly, the defense industry's progress indicates the undeniable reality that the 40 years of sanctions against Iran's military industries have not marred their growth. The military industry has been an area of success and a role model for defeating the sanctions," the statement signed by 220 lawmakers said, Fars News Agency said.

It described as a source of national pride Iran's production of home-made long-range missiles, satellite carriers, different vessels and submarines and drones as well as its self-reliance in designing and producing  defense equipment.

"We as parliament members support the defense sector’s measures and attempts by the Defense Ministry to make progress, contribute to the country's clout in scientific and defense areas and play an effective role in the implementation of the economy of resistance," the statement underlined.

The statement was issued one week after Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami assured the nation that the country would continue its progress in defense and missile fields regardless of threats and sanctions of enemies.

"The Islamic Republic's missile power is a deterrent power and as I promised our dear people, I will not spare any effort to increase the country's missile capabilities," Hatami told a ceremony to unveil the new home-made missile 'Fateh Mobin' last week.
