Kerala has been reeling under murderous monsoon, which has claimed 324 lives.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi expressed condolences over the deadly floods caused by monsoon rain in India, which left hundreds of people dead and missing.

In a statement on Saturday, Qasemi offered sympathy to the Indian people and government and the families of the victims.

Heavy rains over the past ten days triggered flooding and landslides, causing home and bridge collapses and severely disrupting air and train services in southern Kerala state, a popular tourist destination with scenic landscapes, waterfalls and beautiful beaches. Kerala has been reeling under murderous monsoon, which has claimed 324 lives even as National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 58 teams and has managed to save over 7,000 people.

Separately, in a message to his Indian counterpart on Saturday, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed condolences over the death of former Indian prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Vajpayee, 93, died on Thursday after a long illness. A leader of the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party, he had suffered a stroke in 2009.

Vajpayee was an Indian politician who served three terms as prime minister: first for a term of 13 days in 1996, then for a period of 13 months from 1998 to 1999, and finally, for a full term from 1999 to 2004.
