Iran has delivered a strong diplomatic protest to Georgia against Tbilisi airport police’s disrespect for Iranian women passengers were forced to remove their headscarves during security check. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Thursday that the protest note was a response to reports that some Iranian women on had been asked by the Tbilisi airport security to remove their headscarves on August 7, Tasnim News Agency reported. Earlier reports said Iranian passengers had their Islamic headscarves removed during security checks for a flight from Tbilisi to Isfahan, according to the Foreign Ministry website. Speaking to reporters, Qassemi said “after seeing the reports, the ambassador to Georgia called some of the passengers to verify the reports and then sent a strongly-worded protest note to the Georgian Foreign Ministry and the airport security police.”
“The relevant Georgian authorities have been asked to pursue the matter and ensure that Iranian passengers are not subjected to such treatment again,” he said.
