Saeed Barati, an Iranian border guard kidnapped by terrorists last year has been freed, a senior official said Wednesday.

He was released thanks to the efforts by the country’s security forces, Iran’s Border Police Brigadier General Qasem Rezaei was quoted as saying by ISNA. He did not provide details.

Barati was taken captive during a cross-border attack by Sunni militants on the frontier with Pakistan on April 26, 2017, in which several Iranian border guards in Mirjaveh county in Sistan and Baluchestan Province were killed.  

A militant group called Jaish al Adl (the Army of Justice) claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper, the Tehran government had asked for Islamabad’s help in finding  Barati.
