Iraq plans to reduce visa fees for Iranian pilgrims wanting to visit the country for a major religious occasion later this year, AP reported.

The reduction will only apply to pilgrims coming for the annual Arbaeen mourning ceremonies, the anniversary of the passage of 40 days after the martyrdom of the third Imam of Shiites, Imam Hussein (PBUH), grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).  News of the lower visa charges, which normally is $40, was posted on the Iraqi government’s website on Tuesday. The post did not mention the new costs.

Every year, millions of Muslims from around the world, including Iran, descend on Iraq’s holy city of Karbala for the pilgrimage, which falls on October 30 this year.
