Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif congratulated the Lebanese people and government as well as the Hezbollah Resistance Movement on the anniversary of the country’s victory in the 2006 war against Israel.
In a message Tuesday to his Lebanese counterpart, Gebran Bassil, Zarif hailed the 12th anniversary of Lebanon’s victory in the 33-day war against Israel in 2006.
He also congratulated the secretary general of the Hezbollah Resistance Movement, Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah on the historic triumph, Tasnim News Agency reported.
The Tel Aviv regime attacked Lebanon twice in 2000 and 2006. About 1,200 Lebanese, most of them civilians, were killed in the 33-Day War in 2006.
On both occasions, however, Hezbollah fighters defeated the brutal occupying power whose forces retreated without achieving any of its objectives.
The conflict in 2006, also known as the July War, took place in Lebanon, northern parts of Occupied Palestine and the Golan Heights.
It started in July of that year and continued until a United Nations-brokered ceasefire went into effect on August 14.
