The Majlis director general for international affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, said Iran and Russia should promote parliamentary ties. He made the remarks in a meeting with Russia’s Ambassador to Tehran Levan Jagarian on Sunday.

Abdollahian described as “satisfactory” the trend of parliamentary, political and economic cooperation between the two countries, emphasizing that the current level of parliamentary cooperation can increase via regular meetings between the two parliamentary speakers, Mehr News Agency reported. Pointing to important achievements in Syria, Abdollahian termed as “provocative” the destabilizing presence of US troops in the war-ravaged Arab country and said terrorists have no place in the future of Syria and the region. Jagarian, for his part, said, “Fortunately, the political and parliamentary ties between Tehran and Moscow are expanding.”

He went on to say that “The presence of foreign troops in Syria without the government’s permission will further complicate the situation in the war-torn country.”
