China Envoy Calls for Closer Ties

Enhancing bilateral ties between Iran and China can help neutralize US unilateral sanctions, said Chinese Ambassador to Iran Pang Sen.

He made the remarks on Sunday in Tehran in a meeting with Alaeddin Boroujerdi, head of Iran-China Parliamentary Friendship Group, Mehr News Agency reported.

The Chinese diplomat highlighted the importance of ties with Iran, adding that his country is opposed to the controversial US restrictions against Iran and will continue cooperation with Iran.

Boroujerdi, for his part, said that the trade war ignited by US President Donald Trump has undermined international economic relations and this would also harm Washington. He touched upon the increased level of ties between the two nations, hoping that the trend would continue at a more rapid pace. Boroujerdi appreciated China’s stance towards Iran, especially regarding oil cooperation, and called for collaboration between the two parliaments for boosting relations.

China imports approximately 10% of its oil from Iran.  On Friday, Beijing declined a request by US envoys to stop importing crude oil from Iran, Bloomberg reported.
