Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini met in Singapore on Friday for talks on the future of the 2015 nuclear deal.
“The importance for regional and global security of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)–the Iran nuclear deal–was at the forefront of several meetings, including with Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, Foreign Minister of Japan, Taro Kono, and Foreign Minister of Iran, Javad Zarif,” the official website of the European Union reported.
“In the conversation with Minister Zarif, the High Representative reiterated the EU's continued commitment to the JCPOA and updated the Minister on the EU's ongoing work and measures to preserve the deal,” it added.
Touching upon his meetings in Singapore, Zarif tweeted that there is “clear global consensus on the need to take concerted action to preserve JCPOA.”
“Met with President and FM of Singapore and FMs of China, New Zealand, Australia and Indonesia. Clear global consensus on need to take concerted action to preserve JCPOA,” Zarif's tweet reads.
He then referred to the meeting with Mogherini, adding, “Also detailed review with HR Mogherini of actions by EU and beyond to ensure economic benefits to Iranian people.”
