Drug Gang Busted at IKIA

Airport Police announced that an international narcotics gang was disbanded after being detected by security forces in Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport. “The gang that was active in Tehran and Mashhad and had smuggled narcotics to Canada, Australia and other places,” said Brigadier-General Hassan Mehri, chief of Iran’s Airport Police, IRNA reported. “The haul was 59 kilograms of opium concealed in furniture and two industrial ovens to be sent to London.” Mehri said the drugs were so skillfully hidden that the existing special detectors were unable to find it. Mehri also added that following the discovery of the drugs at IKIA, police found 21 kilograms of narcotics in Mashhad and Bandar Abbas airports in the northwest and southern regions. Four people were arrested during the operations.
