Security forces in the southwest arrested four members of the self-styled Islamic State (Daesh) terrorist group who were planning attacks, Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi said.

“This team wanted to destabilize some areas but their plans were thwarted because of the timely intervention of security forces,” Alavi said, according to Tasnim News Agency.

One of the members of the terrorist cell, whose brother had been killed as a Daesh terrorist in Syria, intended to form a four-member group to join the Daesh but they were identified and nabbed by the intelligence forces in the southwest regions, Alawi said in Zanjan Province on Monday evening.پ The terrorists had plans to carry out sabotage and terror operations in some districts, he said, adding that however, their plots were foiled by the intelligence forces.

Separately, three IS members and one member of the security forces were killed when in clashes on Saturday in northwestern Iran.

Earlier this month, eight members of the terrorist group convicted of carrying out attacks on the Parliament and the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini in June 2017 were executed.
