Iran has filed a complaint against the US for “re-imposition of unilateral sanctions” with the International Court of Justice, the foreign minister said Monday. “Today Iran filed a complaint @CIJ_ICJ to hold the US accountable for its unlawful re-imposition of unilateral sanctions. Iran is committed to the rule of law in the face of the US contempt for diplomacy & legal obligations. It is imperative to counter its habit of violating int’l law,” Zarif wrote in Twitter. Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (the US, France, Britain, China, and Russia) plus Germany signed the nuclear deal in 2015. Iran agreed to curb its nuclear program in exchange for economic sanctions relief. US President Donald Trump withdrew from the deal in May, calling it the worst deal ever. Washington has reimposed economic sanctions that will take effect on August 6.
