Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi in a message strongly condemned a suicide attack on an election rally in Pakistan’s Baluchistan Province which resulted in the death of over 130 civilians and injured many others.

“The Iranian government and nation condemn the terrorist attack on the election rally in Pakistan,” Qassemi said on Friday, Fars News Agency reported. He expressed empathy and solidarity with the victims of the  attack.

In the southwest town of Dringarh, about 35km south of the Baluchistan provincial capital Quetta, a suicide attacker targeted a rally of the Baluchistan Awami Party (BAP), killing at least 130 people, hospital officials told Al Jazeera.

The BAP’s candidate Siraj Raisani was running for election to the provincial assembly in his home district of Mastung, where the attack took place. The area has been the site of several attacks by the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) armed group.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Pakistan is heading to the polls on July 25.
