The interior ministry needs about 115 million dollars in funds to be able to complete the process of holding the 2016 parliamentary election fully electronically, the spokesperson for the ministry said on Tuesday.
"The election has 25 procedures. The infrastructure to implement 24 procedures electronically has been developed, but for the final stage we need funds. We are hopeful that the required funds will be made available in view of our agreement with the Guardian Council (a constitutional body tasked with supervising elections)," Deputy Interior Minister Hosseinali Amiri said in a press briefing, IRNA reported.
He also said, "We need 95,000 electronic voting machines to replace 95,000 ballot boxes to be able to hold the election electronically."
He added that discussions are underway to pave the way for holding the Majlis vote electronically, noting that the interior ministry is fully prepared for an electronic election.
Elsewhere, he said the most important strategy of the administration of President Hassan Rouhani is to maintain stability.
"The interior ministry is responsible for preserving stability and we should prevent tension in the country," he added.
