The first vice president on Thursday described the US sanctions a declaration of an economic war and called for national solidarity against US pressures.
“A country like America has declared war on the Islamic Republic and the government must adopt appropriate measures compatible with the situation,” Eshaq Jahangiri said in a meeting with the government officials, IRNA reported.
If political groups and factions inside the country close ranks and unite the country will withstand the US pressures, he said.
US President Donald Trump announced on May 8 that Washington is pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal and reinstating sanctions.
This is while most world powers, including Russia, China, and the European Union have repeatedly stressed that keeping the deal is in the interest of world peace and security.
Echoing that view, a senior advisor to the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Friday said that the nation would support the government against the US sanctions.
“Today, an irresponsible and disloyal individual is threatening to sanction Iran but he should know that the nation will support the government against US sanctions,” Ali Akbar Velayati said in reference to Trump’s increasing animosity and irresponsible statements against Iran.
