Iran’s deputy ambassador to the United Nations highlighted the country’s unwavering policy to fight terrorism and said Tehran is willing and able to help implement the UN’s counter-terrorism strategy. “The Islamic Republic remains committed to the implementation of the General Assembly’s Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy,” Eshaq Al-e-Habib told the UN General Assembly  meeting on “the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy” in New York on Tuesday, Tasnim News Agency reported. “We stand ready to help Mr. [Vladimir Ivanovich] Voronkov (under-secretary-general of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office) and his team in discharging their important functions in pursuing the goal of ridding the world of terrorism and call on all peace-loving member states to fulfill their commitments in combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” he said. Al-e-Habib noted that Iran is against equating legitimate resistance against occupation with terrorism. “Iran opposes any attempt to equate the legitimate struggle of peoples under colonial or foreign occupation for self-determination with terrorism.”  He said “such equation is aimed at prolonging the occupation of territories and oppression of the people.”
