A lawmaker rejected the possibility of direct talks between Tehran and Washington, saying the US has been discredited even among its own close allies and isolated in the international community.

“The US has lost credibility among its allies and is known as a  law-breaker administration on the international scene,” chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, told ICANA.

“The US has never been in such terrible conditions in the international arena and in such isolation,” he added.

US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal or JCPOA with the purpose of reimposing sanctions on the Islamic Republic exposes the US’ growing hostility towards Iranians, the lawmaker said, categorically rejecting the proposal for direct negotiations between the two countries.

His comments came after a group of Iranian political activists in a letter urged the country’s senior officials to hold direct negotiations with the US to resolve the standoff over the JCPOA.

The letter said that the talks could help protect Iran’s national interest and solve other problems between the two sides. Iran and US do not have diplomatic ties for four decades.
