An Iraqi parliamentarian says the Iranian army provides arms and military advice to Iraqi forces, adding that all officials of the Arab country believe that if Iran had not assisted Iraq, it would not have been able to halt the advances of the self-declared Islamic State militant group and recapture some areas seized by them.

“We appreciate Iran’s help in the fight against Daesh (the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant),” Hadi al-Ameri, current Iraqi minister of transportation and head of the Badr Organization, said in an interview with the Al-Alam Arabic-language news channel, ISNA reported on Monday. In addition, Ameri said the Iraqi defense and interior ministries directly purchase weapons from Iran, noting that Iran does not supply ordinary people with arms, but it provide weapons through official channels.
