UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is keen on safeguarding the landmark Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a senior UN official said on Tuesday. Talking to IRNA, Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman for the UN chief said his views regarding the JCPOA have not changed. Commenting on Guterres' report on the UN Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2231, Dujarric underlined that the report will be published in the near future. Asking if Guterres has confirmed in the report that the US has violated Resolution 2231 as a result of its withdrawal, he said, “I think we should wait for the report to be published.” Resolution 2231 was adopted by the UNSC in July 2015 to endorse the nuclear agreement between Iran and six world powers signed in the same year.
