Right to JCPOA Economic Benefits Emphasized During SCO Summit

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said upholding Iran’s right to economic benefits enshrined in the 2015 nuclear deal by the non-US signatories was highlighted during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in China.

Zarif said President Hassan Rouhani announced Iran’s views during the SCO summit and that the deal, official known as JCPOA, was supported by the summiteers as an international agreement, Tasnim News Agency reported.

The SCO summit provided Rouhani with the opportunity to hold meetings with his Chinese and Russian counterparts, whose countries are among the signatories of the JCPOA, Zarif said.

Commitments of the Chinese and the Russians were discussed in the meetings to make sure that Iran will fully enjoy the economic benefits enshrined in the JCPOA, which was also mentioned in speeches by the Chinese and Russian presidents, he added.

Rouhani met with several foreign leaders on the sidelines of the two-day summit in China.

The SCO was established in Shanghai in 2001, with China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan as founding members.
