A foreign ministry official condemned a suicide bomb attack on a cafe in the Lebanese city of Tripoli which killed at least seven people on Saturday.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Marzieh Afkham on Sunday offered condolences to the Lebanese government and nation as well as the families of the victims of the deadly attack, saying the perpetrators of the “heinous attack targeted Lebanon’s unity, integrity and stability,” Press TV reported.

She said Lebanon’s wise authorities and political leaders and groups will certainly foil “sinister divisive plots hatched by their enemy” through enhancing national unity and dialog.

The Nusra Front, al Qaeda’s official affiliate in the Syrian war, said it carried out the suicide attack in the predominantly Alawite district of Jabal Mohsen “in revenge for the Sunnis in Syria and Lebanon,” Reuters reported.
