2 Killed in Army Training Aircraft Crash

Two crew members were killed when a light training aircraft of the Army crashed in south Tehran, the Army’s press service said Wednesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening in an uninhibited area near  Imam Khomeini International Airport, 50 km from the capital, the statement read. According to spokesperson for emergency agency Mojtaba Khaledi,  two crew members of the plane were killed when it crashed.

He also added that one member of the emergency services was also injured trying to salvage the bodies of the victim, ILNA reported. The plane had only two crew members.

The army said the crash was caused due to a technical problem.The plane crashed at 7:15 pm local time (1445 GMT) during a training mission.

A training plane crashed in Alborz Province west of Tehran in September 2016 in which nobody was hurt. A similar accident occurred the same year in western suburbs  of the capital, killing both the pilot and co-pilot.
