A senior adviser to the Parliament speaker says the time has come for uninvited foreigners in Syria, including the US forces, to leave the Arab country now that the Daesh terror group has fallen.

“Since the beginning (of crisis in Syria), the Islamic Republic insisted on a political solution in Syria. Now, with the defeat of Daesh, the time has come for uninvited foreigners, including the US which has several military bases in the country, to leave Syria and pave the way for free elections involving all Syrians,” Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Sunday, Tasnim News Agency reported.

He said the Iranian military advisers helping Syria in the war on terror will stand by the war-ravaged Arab country as long as the Damascus government wants.

Syria has been in the grip of civil war since March 2011 with assorted terrorist groups and their mercenaries fighting against its central government.

Iran has remained a close ally of Syria and supported its legitimate government in the face of foreign-backed militancy.

Foreign Ministry spokesman, Bahram Qassemi, said last week Iran’s support for Syria in the fight against terrorism and its advisory mission in the Arab country will continue so long as Damascus wants.
