President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Nicolas Maduro on his reelection as the president of the Latin American country.
“Undoubtedly, the successful, calm and healthy holding of this election, under the shadow of economic sanctions and foreign threats, is a great success and victory for the Venezuelan people and government,” Rouhani said in a message to Maduro on Saturday, Tasnim News Agency reported.
On behalf of the Iranian people and government, Rouhani expressed solidarity with “the nation and government of Bolivarian Venezuela,” and hoped that through joint efforts both nations will witness closer ties.
Iran is involved in joint ventures worth several billion dollars in energy, agriculture, housing, and infrastructure sectors in Venezuela. Iran’s main industrial projects in that country include a car assembly plant, a tractor manufacturing complex and a cement factory.
Both countries are rich in resources. Venezuela has the world's biggest oil deposit while Iran owns the world’s fourth largest oil and the largest gas reserves.
