A lawmaker played down the recent statement issued by the EU foreign policy chief in support of the 2015 nuclear deal after the US withdrawal, and said only action, not words, will show Europe’s determination to continue cooperation with Tehran.

“If the European companies do not continue in Iran [after the US withdrawal] or do not deliver on the contracts they signed after the nuclear deal, slogans, statements and official documents will have no value,” head of  the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Alaeddin Boroujerdi told reporters in Tehran on Tuesday, Fars News Agency reported.

He said only practical measures are important for Iran because even the nuclear deal, which was an official document, was easily breached and discarded by the United States.

President Donald Trump announced on May 8 that Washington would no longer remain part of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and promised to reimpose the highest level of economic sanctions against Iran.
