Leader Donates Money to Free Prisoners

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei donated 4 billion Rials (about $95,000) to help release needy prisoners.The donation was made on the occasion of a national day on which  charities collect money to help secure the freedom of prisoners found guilty of unintentional crime (usually financial) and are unable to compensate the damages, Mehr News Agency reported.The day, called Golrizan, is held annually nationwide with the participation of philanthropists, NGOs and charities to help those inmates who are behind bars because of financial problems. According to a report by ISNA in March, there are 12,000 people currently facing jail terms for unintentional wrongdoing.
