Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underscored the necessity for closer bonds and cooperation among Asian nations. “Asian countries need to work together and cooperate more closely as this will empower them,” the Leader said in a meeting Sunday with Maithripala Sirisena, the visiting president of Sri Lanka, Tasnim News Agency reported. “The Islamic Republic is prepared to enhance its friendship and mutual cooperation with Sri Lanka,” he said. The Leader welcomed the cultural and historical relations between the two countries, and with the countries of the subcontinent, and noted that the level of trade between Iran and Sri Lanka is much less than the two nations' potentials. For his part, the Lankan leader said the two countries have decided to boost cooperation. He described Iran as a developed state in technical, scientific and academic fields in the region and expressed the hope that his country could benefit from Iran’s progress.
