Defense Minister Amir Hatami met with an Omani military delegation during and expressed Iran’s willingness to create a positive, constructive atmosphere in the region. According to the public relations department of the Defense Ministry, Brigadier General Hatami met a military delegation from Oman headed by Brigadier General al-Balushi, the deputy chief of General Staff of Oman’s Royal Forces, on Tuesday.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the 14th joint commission meeting hosted by the Iranian General Staff in Tehran on May 5, stressing that such meetings will strengthen bilateral ties, which in turn can help security and peace in the region. Hatami said Iran-Oman relations can serve as a model for other countries in the region.
Noting that collective security can help promote security and mutual trust between the countries in the region, the Iranian minister stressed that Iran’s message to its neighbors is one of friendship and peace.
General Balushi hailed the historic relations between the two countries, stressing that the Sultanate of Oman highly appreciates its relations with Iran.
He emphasized expansion of bilateral military relations within the framework of the joint military commission.
Welcoming close bilateral relations, he said collaboration between Muslim states can help promote security, peace and stability in the volatile region.
The Omani top brass traveled to Tehran to participate in the 14th joint military commission and held talks with senior commanders. Joint naval drills will be held in the coming days to increase the preparedness of Iranian and Omani forces to protect the Strait of Hormuz, the world's most important energy export waterway.
