A senior nuclear negotiator said on Tuesday the negotiating team will hold bilateral discussions with the US and Russian delegations before a new round of nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) scheduled to be held on January 18 in the Swiss city of Geneva, Fars news agency reported.

Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said the bilateral meetings will start on January 15 and the meeting with the six major powers (the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany) will be held at the deputy foreign ministerial level.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had earlier said the meeting with the six major powers would be held on January 15. He also said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready for any outcome.”

The European Union also said in a statement on Wednesday that Iran and the six powers “will continue negotiations in Geneva on January 18 with a view to making further progress towards a long-term comprehensive solution on the nuclear issue.”

“The meeting will be at political directors’ level, chaired by EU Political Director Helga Schmid,” the statement added.
