Assassination of political figures shows refusal to resolve issues through political means, says Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani.

“Eliminating political leaders means running away from dialogue and disregard for logic and political solutions,” the official said in a condolence message Tuesday on the occasion of the death of Saleh al-Samad, president of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council, who was killed in a Saudi-led coalition air strike in the port city of Hodeidah on the country’s west coast last week.

Shamkhani condemned the Saudi atrocities, which he said have resulted in the deaths of a large number of innocent civilians in the war-ravaged Arab country, ILNA reported.

The most senior official to have been killed by the western-backed US-led alliance in the three-year-old war, al-Samad’s name was on a Saudi list of 40 leaders that put bounties on their heads totaling $440 million, according to AFP. Mehdi al-Mashat has been appointed as al-Samad’s successor.

The SNSC chief wished al-Mashat success, reiterating that Iran will continue to support efforts aimed at settling the crisis through negotiations and putting an end to the foreign aggression.
