Deputy FM Confers With African Union Official

Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian expressed Tehran's readiness to enhance cooperation with the African Union in scientific and technological areas.

In a meeting with African Union Commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology Martial De-Paul Ikounga in Tehran on Tuesday, Amir-Abdollahian said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has attained great scientific and technological achievements despite pressure and sanctions."

"(Iran) is prepared to have greater cooperation with the African Union and African countries," he added.

Referring to the status of Africa on Iran's foreign policy agenda, he said, "Iran attaches special importance to cooperation with the African Union and in particular with the commission of human resources, science and technology."

The African Union commissioner praised Iran's significant advances and said one of the main plans of the African bloc is to expand cooperation with Iran in various areas.

Ikounga added, "Africa needs Iran's experience for its development and this visit is aimed at exploring areas of cooperation between Iran and the African Union."
