Strong bonds between Iran and Iraq, mainly driven by a joint campaign against terrorism, has helped promote mutual interest, Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jafari said. “Good Iran-Iraq relations have indeed proved beneficial for both countries,” he told IRNA on Monday. He said close collaboration between the two neighbors has inspired other members of the international community. Iran-backed forces were instrumental in the Iraqi Army’s campaign to expel the so-called Islamic State terror group from the Arab country. Final victory over IS militants was formally declared in December after they lost their last strongholds in Iraq and Syria, the countries whose vast swaths of territory had come under the IS control in a 2014 lightning offensive. Tehran has announced its readiness to help the Iraqi people and government  in their reconstruction efforts following  decades of war, internal strife and IS campaign of terror.
