Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Friday that the recent admission by designated CIA boss, Mike Pompeo, about the nature of Iran's nuclear program demonstrated Washington's "moral bankruptcy". US moral bankruptcy on full display in CIA chief's admission of US policy: in the past Iran was sanctioned over false claims that it sought nuclear weapons. Now, sanctions must be reimposed because we seek no nukes?" Zarif wrote on his official Twitter account. Pompeo, US President Donald Trump's nominee to lead the State Department, said in recent comments, "Iran wasn't racing to a weapon before the deal. There is no indication that I'm aware of that, if the deal no longer existed, that they would immediately turn to racing to create a nuclear weapon today," CNN reported.  Trump has set a May 12 deadline to either change or pull out of the Iran nuclear deal, creating frustration among US allies in Europe who back the agreement. Iran says its nuclear program is peaceful.
