The leader of Lebanon’s Hezbollah group said on Friday that Israel’s targeting of a Syrian air base on Sunday that killed seven Iranian military advisors was a “historic mistake”. “This is the first time in 7 years the Israelis have deliberately killed Iranian revolutionary guards in the airport,” Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said in a televised speech on Friday. “They (the Israelis) have committed a great folly and have put themselves into a direct fight with Iran,” Reuters reported. Seven military advisors from Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps were among those killed in the airstrike by Israel on a Syrian air base on Sunday. Russia and Syria said Monday that Israeli warplanes struck an air base in Homs. Interfax news agency cited the Russian Defense Ministry as saying that two Israeli F-15 warplanes carried out the strikes from Lebanese air space on the T-4 air base on Sunday.
On Tuesday, Ali Akbar Velayati, foreign policy advisor to the Leader of Islamic Revolution, said “This crime will definitely not go unanswered.”
Iran’s military advisors have been helping the government in Syria fight the foreign-backed rebels and terrorists. They were instrumental in putting an end to the militancy in the war-ravaged Arab state.
