In its meeting on Saturday chaired by Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, the Expediency Council approved two clauses of the general policies on elections, IRNA reported. Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has recently assigned the council the task of drafting the general policies on elections. One clause states that representatives and councilors will respectively be elected to parliament and city councils either by an absolute majority in the first rounds of elections or by a simple majority in the second rounds. The other clause envisages the fair and equal allocation of public facilities to all candidates, including the provision of equal opportunities for the candidates to present their plans on the state televisions and radios. The majority of Expediency Council members, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting Director Mohammad Sarafraz, Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi and Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli were present at Saturday’s session.
