Iran and Germany held a consular meeting in Tehran on Tuesday to discuss bilateral consular affairs.

The meeting was co-chaired by directors for consular affairs from the two foreign ministries, Tasnim News Agency reported citing a press release by Iran’s Foreign Ministry.

The delegations discussed a range of consular issues at the meeting, including easing and expediting the issuance of visas, especially for university professors and students as well as businessmen and truck drivers, the necessity of legal cooperation and judicial assistance, and support for nationals of both countries.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the talks and declared that the next meeting would be held in Germany. After the meeting, members of the German delegation met Hossein Panahi-Azar, deputy director for parliamentary and expatriate affairs at the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Diplomatic and trade relations between Iran and European countries, Germany in particular, have been on the rise since the nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers came into force in January 2016.
