Kuwait Seeks Expansion of Relations

Kuwait’s ambassador to the United Nations says his country seeks to expand its “good relations” with Iran.
In an interview with IRNA on Saturday, Mansour Al-Otaibi pointed to the “numerous crises” in the Persian Gulf, saying that “for these crises to end, Iran and Kuwait should have great relations.”
Iran and Kuwait saw their relations getting soured last year when the Arab state accused Tehran of having a hand in a “spy cell” and ordered the Iranian Embassy in Kuwait City to reduce its embassy staff and close down its technical offices.
Tehran has flatly rejected the charges, with many observers believing Kuwait made the allegations under pressure from Riyadh when Kuwait and Iran found themselves on the same page denouncing Saudi Arabia leading a blockade against Qatar over its alleged support for terrorism and warm ties with Tehran. Doha denies the charges.
Without mentioning the spy cell allegations, Otaibi said, “We maintain no country should meddle in others’ internal affairs. Iran has also announced it will not let any state to meddle in its affairs.”
