UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Mohammed Gargash highlighted Iran's key role in the region and praised the "unique relations" between the two neighboring states.

The UAE minister made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in which the two officials discussed bilateral relations and the latest developments in the Middle East and North Africa region, Fars news agency reported on Thursday.

The UAE official was briefed on the negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members and Germany) on Tehran's nuclear program.

The UAE minister described the fight against terrorism and extremism in the region as significant and said the Persian Gulf Arab state has adopted the policy to play an effective role in the anti-terror campaign.

The latest measures to improve bilateral relations were reviewed and it was agreed that the meeting of Iran-UAE joint high commission will be held in Tehran next Iranian calendar year, which starts on March 21.

Amir-Abdollahian also expressed gratitude to the UAE official for paying special attention to regional issues and the anti-terror fight and elaborated on Iran's stance vis-à-vis regional developments.

Referring to the challenges facing some regional countries, such as Syria, Libya and Bahrain, he described the political solution as the only way out of the problems.   

The two officials also called for reinforcement of mutual ties.
