US Navy Says It Received Iran Message

The US Navy says it received a radio message from Iranian naval vessels about an Iranian exercise in the Strait of Hormuz.

Lt. Chloe Morgan, a spokeswoman for the US Navy’s 5th Fleet in Bahrain, said an American warship in the Gulf of Oman heard the message on Monday, AP reported.

Morgan said on Tuesday that the American vessel “continued to execute its mission and did not alter operations as a result of the radio transmission.”

A senior Iranian naval officer had earlier said Iranian warplanes warned off two “coalition vessels” during the maneuvers in waters off the country’s southeast.

The vessels approached the area of the drills early on Monday to monitor Iranian ships, said Rear Admiral Mahmoud Mousavi, according to Tasnim News Agency, as cited by Reuters.

“Iranian drones identified the vessels, then Iranian planes flew over them and gave them a warning. The vessels left the area.”

Iran’s Army launched two days of exercises on Monday in the country’s south and southeast, near the Makran coastal strip, and other areas in the Gulf of Oman.
