President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday Iran's military power is the "source of comfort, stability and security" both for the nation and the region.

"The armed forces of Iran do not intend to invade any other country," Fars news agency reported the president as saying on the sidelines of a massive naval parade in southern Iran, which was held on the final day of a major exercise of the armed forces.

He added, "Iran and other regional countries can properly defend their territories and the region, and there is no need for presence of foreign forces in this region under any pretext."

The armed forces started a massive drill last Thursday in an area covering 2.2 million square kilometers from the east of the Strait of Hormuz to the 10th parallel north in the Indian Ocean and in parts of the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan and the southern province of Hormozgan. The army, navy, air force, air defense base and some units of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) took part in the maneuvers, in which various domestically manufactured pieces of military hardware were used.

"Despite the long-term sanctions, Iran's navy and air force are more powerful than ever," the president noted.

Rouhani added, "Today, the Iranian navy not only is able to defend the interests of the Islamic Republic in the country's territorial waters, they are also capable of protecting the interests of other countries against piracy in international waters."
