Tehran Ready for Any Scenario on Nuclear Deal

A senior nuclear negotiator said Tehran is ready for any decision by the US on its approach to the 2015 nuclear deal. “US President [Donald Trump] has gone to great lengths to undermine JCPOA over the past year, and even he may try to scupper it in the coming days, so the region and the international community need to prepare for such a development,” Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Monday, IRNA reported. Trump faces a series of deadlines starting on Wednesday to extend sanctions waivers on Iran under the deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, and if he fails to do so, the US would effectively be in violation of the agreement, a move which could spell the end of the international accord.  “Iran is ready for all scenarios, whether it is the US decision to stay in the deal or withdraw from it,” he said, stressing that “the region would be the biggest loser in case the US pulls out of the deal.” He also urged the Europeans to do more to preserve the deal through taking measures to encourage their banks and firms to do business with their Iranian counterparts.
