A lawmaker called for urgent reforms in the country’s administrative system to tackle rampant corruption, which recently prompted thousands of protestors to converge on streets of dozens of Iranian cities. US President Donald Trump has seized upon the situation to sharpen his anti-Iran rhetoric.   “The US is trying to create a new sedition based on economic issues. This underscores the necessity of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s officials focusing on domestic resources to solve the problems of the people. The Iranian people are fed up with the administrative system and want to see issues like graft cases and inflated salaries resolved,” Abolfazl Aboutorabi told ICANA on Friday. The protests erupted in the second largest Iranian city of Mashhad on January 28 to criticize the government’s failure in curtailing high inflation and pervasive corruption but turned violent shortly and spread to other cities, including the capital Tehran.
