Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Tuesday Iran is ready to share its advances and achievements in science, technology and industry with Tunisia as he met with the Tunisian minister of trade in Tehran.

"We are ready to cooperate with Tunisia in all spheres including transfer of modern technologies," IRNA quoted him as saying during a meeting with Tunisian official Najla Harouch.

The top diplomat added that "Tehran attaches importance to diplomatic ties with Tunis and welcomes further expansion of such relations."

Zarif, elsewhere, made a reference to the election of Beji Caid Essebsi as Tunisia's first democratically elected president and noted, "The successful example of presidential election in Tunisia is the outcome of concord and harmony among people from all walks of life in that country."

Essebsi won Tunisia's first free presidential election this month in the final step of a transition to democracy after an uprising that ousted autocrat Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali in 2011.

For his part, the Tunisian official praised Iran's "impressive advances" in science and modern technologies and expressed hope that his country could take advantage of this potential in the near future.

Harouch also underlined her country's willingness to expand two-way cooperation in tourism and trade.
