Russia’s Foreign Ministry expressed hope that protests in Iran will not lead to severe violence and bloodshed. Commenting on the current situation in Iran, where scattered economic and political protests are ongoing, the ministry said in a Monday statement that interference from abroad in the situation in Iran is unacceptable, Sputnik reported. “External interference [in Iran’s internal affairs] which may destabilize the situation is unacceptable,” the statement said. Several cities in Iran, including Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan and Rasht, have been the scene of protests since last Thursday. The people first took to the streets to protest against unemployment, poverty and the rising cost of living, but the rallies turned political as some marchers chanted anti-government slogans.
